Hi Cathy, have you wandered over to the Hep forums yet? There are a lot of people going through Harvoni and Viekira Pak treatment and we all have different experiences and ways of coping. People are very happy to share their experiences, knowing it helps people get through treatment. And you'll always have me over-sharing, it's my forte :)
Hi Grace, I'm glad I found your blog. Just finished week 1 ... overcome by tiredness ... hoping as the virus gets chomped away that will improve. Thanks for sharing your experience and progress. Look forward to more. Cathy
Thanks Michelle, it's always good to know there are others who have gone through the same thing. I'll look forward to Week 7!
I agree that a ribavirin reduction might help, but since you're a geno 1a I'd put that off until you absolutely have to ie if Hb or RCC count tank too much. Re the fatigue, I got it in spades. I was ok in the mornings but most afternoons found me on the couch for a couple of hours nanna napping. Could not fight through it. Hope the fatigue doesn't get you to that extent, but yeah, this is a serious fight for you and a little time off, even a couple of days a week, might stand you in good stead. Fatigue can build.... Cheers, mate!
Grace, My husband went through the same thing week 3-5, same meds. He wanted to sleep for 24 hours... His blood test showed low HGB, high Bili, and low HCT. The doctor reduced the dosage of Ribo to 4 from 5 per day. It helped a lot. He feels almost normal week 7. More ups than downs... I hope you feel better soon.
Grace
Cheers, big ears :) I've already had to have a riba reduction - my blood tests showed some very worrying results that looked like the start of renal problems, and that combined with my ridiculously high bilirubin levels, plummeting haemoglobin and dropping red blood cell count made them reduce it for my safety. Things are slowly getting better but nothing's quite right yet. Rather than any further reduction I'm going to tough it out and take leave when I need it.
